In the end finding the best one for you and your kitty comes down to a few factors: what your kitty likes; cost; convenience; odour control. The absolute most important factor with keeping kitty happy with the litter tray is keeping it clean; apart from an automatic litter set-up, clumping litter is best for this as you simply scoop out the solids once or twice per day and discard them in your rubbish bin then top up the contents of the tray once every week or two. This is because there are so many dangers outside for cats plus cats are a danger to wildlife.

The recommendation for multicat households is one litter tray per cat plus an extra. eg: two cats = three trays; three cats = four trays.
